Fast and Furious (aka The Fast and the Furious) is a multimedia franchise focused on a series of action films with a heavy focus on street racing, heists, spies, and family. The franchise also includes short films, television series, toys, video games, live entertainment, and theme park attractions. Universal Pictures is distributing the films. The first film is based on the 1998 Vibe Magazine article Racer Culminates in Fast & Angry (2009). The series moved towards robbery and espionage with Fast Five (2011), followed by five sequels to the genre, the latest of which, was a fast-off film; Shaw (2019), while its DreamWorks Animation subsidiary developed this six-season Fast & Angry Racing Spies (2019-2021). Soundtrack albums have been released for all of the films, as well as compilations of existing music from the films. Two short films have also been released for the series. The series is a commercial success. It is Universal’s largest franchise and the seventh-highest-grossing motion picture franchise, with a combined gross of over $7 billion. Critical response to the first four films was mixed until the fifth and subsequent films received a more positive response. Beyond Fast & Furious has been the subject of other media, including attractions at Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Studios Florida, live entertainment, commercials, toys, and video games.
