The Witcher is a fantasy television series created for Netflix by Lauren Schmidt Hissrich. It is based on the book series of the same name by the Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski. Set in a fictional, medieval-inspired land called “Continent,” The Witcher explores the legend of Geralt of Rivia, Yennefer of Vengerberg, and Princess Ciri. Starring Henry Cavill, Anya Chalotra and Freya Allan. The first season, consisting of eight episodes, was released on December 20, 2019 on Netflix.It was based on The Last Wish and The Sword of Destiny, short story collections that precede the main Witcher saga. The second season, also consisting of eight episodes and based on the novel Blood of Elves, premiered on December 17, 2021. In September 2021, Netflix renewed the series for a third season, also consisting of eight episodes and scheduled to be published in two volumes. on June 29 and July 27, 2023. A fourth season follows, with Liam Hemsworth reprising his role as Geralt of Rivia. The animated film The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf premiered on August 23, 2021.The prequel to The Witcher: Origin of Blood miniseries was released on December 25, 2022.
